Digital Commons

Digital Commons is a new professional development series that creates accessible, hands-on opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to explore emerging technologies, creative tools, and digital practices in a people-centered, liberal arts context. 

A Digital Commons session is more than a technology demo. It helps participants understand what the technology is, where it is useful, where it falls short, and how to apply it thoughtfully through discussion, examples, experimentation, or making.

Digital Commons events typically:

• are practical and participatory rather than purely lecture-based;

• connect technology to real teaching, learning, creative, and research use cases;

• emphasize judgment, ethics, and responsible use alongside technical skills;

• welcome beginners while still providing meaningful takeaways for more experienced participants;

• draw on faculty, staff, students, alumni, and external practitioners as contributors;

• deliver a specific skill, understanding, and/or strategy participants can apply in their work.
