Purpose of This Phase
Transition and onboarding reflect the institution’s commitment to faculty hiring as a long-term investment and the beginning of a colleague’s career at the institution.
What Happens in This Phase
Following acceptance of an offer, departments focus on welcoming the new faculty member and supporting their integration into the academic community. Early connections are made to mentoring structures and professional resources, including, but not limited to, the Faculty Hub.
Key Faculty Decisions
Departments typically decide:
- How to welcome and orient the new colleague
- How to share departmental norms and expectations
- How to support mentoring and development beyond the first year
Required Steps
- Share name of new hire with the Faculty Hub
- Completion of institutional onboarding processes

- Establishing early check-ins during the first year
- Connecting new faculty with teaching, mentoring, and research support
