Faculty Systems
Faculty at the University regularly interact with several systems that support teaching, advising, research, and administrative tasks. Below is an overview of the key platforms and their primary uses.
-
Workday
As of January 2025, the University transitioned from Banner to Workday as its Enterprise Resource Planning system for human resources and finance functions. Faculty may log into Workday to initiate or review employee- and finance-related transactions including:
- Updating personal information
- Viewing payslips
- Viewing and updating benefit elections
- Submitting travel and expense reimbursements (replacing Chrome River)
- Making purchases from vendors such as Amazon and Staples
- Viewing grant-related financial information
-
BannerWeb
BannerWeb continues to serve as the platform for faculty services related to teaching and advising functions. Faculty can use BannerWeb to:
- Access and download class rosters
- View classes for course enrollments
- Submit final grades
- View advisee lists and profiles
- View their personal course schedule
- Access GradTracker for tracking student progress
-
Coursedog
Faculty will use Coursedog for academic course and section scheduling. Departments and programs can propose courses for General Education attributes and schedule courses through this system in coordination with the Registrar’s Office.
-
Slate
Faculty may use Slate to review applications while serving on committees, including those for Richmond Scholars and UR Summer Fellowships. They may also use Slate to manage individual UR Summer Fellowship and Scholar Enrichment Grant applications, check students’ FERPA waiver status, and submit evaluations and recommendations for applications such as admission to the Jepson School of Leadership Studies.
-
Faculty Success
Faculty use Faculty Success (formerly known as Digital Measures) as the faculty portfolio system. This system enables faculty to document and report on their activities, including teaching, research and creative work, and service contributions.
-
Blackboard
Blackboard is the University’s learning management system. Faculty can use it to support their instruction through:
- Sharing course materials
- Collecting assignments
- Hosting online discussions and reflective journaling
- Administering tests and quizzes
- Posting grades and feedback
