The Confident Leader
Description
This Faculty Learning Community aims to bring together women from various disciplines for three purposes:
(1) Explore and evaluate current efforts to promote confidence and leadership among our women faculty and students.
(2) Examine and propose new initiatives, including mentoring.
(3) Foster individual relationships among faculty at various points in their careers.
In their book “The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assurance — What Women Should Know,” authors Katty Kay and Claire Shipman point out that “at the top [of corporations and academic institutions], our numbers [of women] are still small and barely increasing. On all levels, our talents are not being fully realized. We believe we’re stalling because, all too often, women don’t see, can’t even envision, what’s possible.” Our group will seek constructive ways to address these concerns.
